ALICE AND THE GOLDEN COINS is a remake of our
original video game from 2003
. This new version brings improvements in all areas: better gameplay, redesigned difficulty, new graphics, new music, new sound effects and new features. The goal is to offer an addictive game, which is very pleasant to play, without being punitive or frustrating the player. The game is made by the same team as
LASERPITIUM
. This page is updated at the same time as the
DevBlog
of the game. The release is planned for summer 2025.
presentation
ALICE AND THE GOLDEN COINS is a 2D Pixel Art action/puzzle game.
You control Alice who must collect in her basket the coins dropped by the fairy Candice who moves at the top of the screen.
Each level is played on a fixed screen during a fairly short game session (about 20 seconds). You must move and jump, while avoiding traps. You must memorize the best way to collect all the coins.
If you succeed, at the end of the game Alice will have enough money to buy medicine to cure her seriously ill grandmother.
story
Alice is a girl who lives in the countryside with her grandmother Tilba. She likes simple things and spends her days having fun. But one day Tilba gives her terrible news: she is very ill and since she doesn't have enough money to buy medicine she risks dying.
Alice is shocked. Tilba is her only family. While she is lamenting in the woods, she meets the fairy Candice. The latter is bored. In order to have a little distraction, she offers Alice a game that would allow her to win a lot of money.
If Alice wins the game before sunset, she will then have enough money to buy the medicine to cure her grandmother.

Alice - The main character who will try to earn as much money as possible to save her grandmother.

Candice - The fairy who gives Alice coins in each level.

The White Rabbit - The rabbit who is Alice's companion to help her in her adventure.

Tilba - Alice's grandmother who is seriously ill.
game modes

Arcade - Allows you to play a short adventure. The number of levels is limited. For each new game, levels are randomly selected from the campaign mode list.

Campaign - Allows you to play a long adventure. All levels are available.

Kid Mode - Allows you to play a short and very easy adventure. The levels are specific to this game mode.
rules
The game is very simple. Candice is at the top of the screen. She drops coins of different values by moving from left to right. Alice is at the bottom of the screen. With her basket, she must collect the coins.
The money goal to collect is displayed at the bottom of the level. If you succeed, the money collected is yours forever!
A coin loses its value when it hits the ground.
A flashing coin has the ability to bounce on the ground once while still retaining its value.
A mystery coin can give you money... or take it away! It's usually best to avoid them. But if you know which ones to take, then you surpass Candice's goal and win even more money!
All coins, other than the mystery coins, must be collected. If you miss a single one, the level immediately ends in failure.
collectibles
The player can get collectibles in some levels. Sometimes they are simply placed on the ground, sometimes they appear after performing certain actions. You have to collect them at the right time, because you can't miss Candice's coins!
These collectibles are grouped together in the inventory. At the end of the adventure, they earn you a lot of extra money, so try to find as much as possible!
level selection
At the start of the adventure, all levels are locked, except the first. Each level successfully completed unlocks the next level. Unlocked levels can be replayed.
The level selection screen has several actions and information.
Actions:

Play - Starts the selected level.

The White Rabbit - Starts the level, except that now The White Rabbit plays automatically to show how to complete the level. Ideal for players who are stuck. The White Rabbit does not show secrets.

Collection - Displays collectibles collected during the adventure.

Exit - Exit the adventure and return to the main screen.
Selected level information:

Money - Money earned.

Ratio - Percentage of money earned in the level (can go beyond 100% thanks to mystery coins).

Secret - Number of secrets found (mystery coins, collectibles, etc.).
1 star - Successful level.
2 stars - Successful level + Ratio greater than 100% (mystery coins).
3 stars - Successful level + Ratio greater than 100% + All secrets.
If a successful level contains no mystery coins or secrets, it's awarded 3 stars.
Information at the bottom of the screen:

Total- Total money earned.

Progress- Percentage of levels successfully completed in the adventure.
bonus levels
The adventure offers bonus levels that have different themes. Each bonus level is available in 2 variants: 1 "Normal" mode and 1 "Hard" mode that the player will find at different times during the adventure.

Gift Theme - Gifts fall from the top of the screen. Each type of gift has a different packaging and value (presented each time before the level starts).

Animal theme - Animals on the left and right of the screen throw coins at Alice. Coins can bounce onto platforms that Alice cannot reach.

Confectionery Theme - Alice must jump on some kind of big switches, displaying in advance the candy generated, which once activated make the candies fall from the top of the screen. Each type of candy has a different shape and value (presented each time before the start of the level).
Unlike a classic level, there is no money goal. Instead, there is a time limit. You have to collect at least one bonus to complete the level. By being observant and persevering, the player can take the bonuses that bring the most and thus win a lot of money!
